Make Art That Sells E-course

{Project 1, Cell Phone Case, Digital, 2014}
I recently signed up for a 6 month long e-course with agent Lilla Rogers. It's called "Make Art That Sells". This past weekend I finished my first project for the course and had a pretty good time doing it! I have to say, the cost of the class seems like a bargain as it has really lit a fire inside me to really create the kind of art I am inspired by. You know the art school speaker adage, "Do the kind of work you want to do"? It's true! Except, when I was in art school I didn't really know what kind of work I wanted to do. My style will probably always be a little all over the place, but it helps get a variety of jobs and it keeps like interesting. However, this class is helping me hone some of the skills that have sat dormant for months (maybe even *gulp* years). I'm feeling really hungry for some good, strong work that I'm really excited about. This class, so far, is doing exactly that.

Sewing Projects for Baby

{Sewing Projects for Baby, 2012}
{Sewn Bird with a Jingle Bell Inside, 2012}
{House Pillow, Front, 2012}
 {House Pillow, Back, 2012}
Even though I have a huge book project I'm working on right now, I have enjoyed making a few things for the little baby boy growing inside me. I have sewn a few toys that are far from perfect, but I hope that he likes them anyways. The bird and cat toys were quick and easy and I made the patterns from tracing paper. I love to make things that way because you never really know what to expect. Usually I don't work from others' patterns. If anything, I often look at sewing projects to get a little inspiration and then go and do my own thing. The house pillow was fun to make but took several sessions to hand stitch the windows and letters. I thought it would be neat to put the word house on the back for someday when he is learning to read. Who knows, maybe I'll make a few more shape and word pillows. I'm also making a little quilt that I will share once its finished. And I  have a few drawing projects that are separate from my book project that I will share soon! It has been a very busy 2012 autumn so far!

Cottage Cat

{Watercolor, 2012}
*Click to view larger*
This is a little piece I did today on a scrap of watercolor paper. Its only about 4x6 inches, but I thought it turned out kind of charming. I love cats! I imagine this sweet little cat curls up in the window of his little cottage when he isn't out exploring his yard.

Small Moleskine Watercolor

{Watercolor in Moleskine, 2011}
When I was visiting England last spring, I purchased a very small Moleskine watercolor journal. Its only about 3"x5" and its a very pleasing size to carry along in a purse or even a pocket. This is just a quick watercolor sketch. I was trying to convey how exciting getting some nice mail can be.
