Make Art That Sells E-course

{Project 1, Cell Phone Case, Digital, 2014}
I recently signed up for a 6 month long e-course with agent Lilla Rogers. It's called "Make Art That Sells". This past weekend I finished my first project for the course and had a pretty good time doing it! I have to say, the cost of the class seems like a bargain as it has really lit a fire inside me to really create the kind of art I am inspired by. You know the art school speaker adage, "Do the kind of work you want to do"? It's true! Except, when I was in art school I didn't really know what kind of work I wanted to do. My style will probably always be a little all over the place, but it helps get a variety of jobs and it keeps like interesting. However, this class is helping me hone some of the skills that have sat dormant for months (maybe even *gulp* years). I'm feeling really hungry for some good, strong work that I'm really excited about. This class, so far, is doing exactly that.

Dreaming of Spring!

{Click image to view larger}
Watercolor/Digital, 2014
I do enjoy aspects of every season but I am already looking forward to planting my 2014 garden this spring! With the short winter days, and long nights I guess that leaves me time to sketch variations on what I will plant and where.

Thinking About Spring

{graphite, 2012}
This is the drawing for the next piece I am going to work on in my Tuesday watercolor class. I'm still considering the background. I assume I will probably add something, but I still have to think about that. I feel like this drawing sort of morphed into the personification of Spring, so maybe I will add something that has to do with that. (Perhaps a little research is in order!) It is nice to be doing something a little more serious for my personal work. I have been doing a lot of freelance work lately, which I LOVE, but sometimes it's nice to switch things up!

Illustration Friday - Prepare

{Watercolor, 2012}
Shortly after Christmas I started to get seed catalogs in the mail. In the winter, it's always nice to prepare for the gardening season. I am itching to get my hands dirty again! I'll probably plant tomatoes, peas, lettuce and radishes like always. I am considering planting a few soy beans too so that we can enjoy some edamame at home! Oh, and maybe some eggplants, onions and potatoes too! I also love to add a few new flowers to my beds every year too! My husband built raised beds for us a few years ago and we made some PVC frames that can either hold netting (to keep deer and company out!) or plastic for cold frames. I'm definitely going to be prepared for spring either way!

Dreaming of Spring

{Sketchbook, 2010}
All of our local stores have their seed packets available for the 2010 growing season. I am planning on growing some vegetables this year and am super excited to go get some seeds of my own. Every year when I garden I always dream of the possibilities and look forward to seeing the first seedlings come up out of the earth!

Winter and Spring

{Graphite on Bristol, 2008}
I finished this today for the Crossroads Iowa Conference and Showcase. The piece is titled "Winter and Spring" and is graphite on bristol paper. I think it might be fun to do an accompanying piece of Summer and Fall too!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and is getting a jump start on all of the holiday traditions, festivities and wonder that surround this time of year!

Sheep Doodle

Just a little experimentation with colored pencil on toned paper. Another excuse to draw something cute!
