Sew Sweet!

{Fabric Cuff, 2009}
I've been getting to know my sewing machine the last few days because I am working on a commission of a plush cow for my friend, Amanda. I took a little break to make this little fabric cuff for myself. I used a little swatch of Amy Butler fabric mixed with some felt, velvet ribbon, and beads. I'm so in LOVE with Amy Butler's stuff! I really want to make a sundress or a skirt with some of her fabric when I get a little more comfortable with the Singer.

Lost Wax Casting

The past few months I have been taking a metals / jewelry class at the Des Moines Art Center and the name of the class was "Lost Wax Casting". I made three items but only had time to finish one completely. This was in the Student Show at the Art Center. It was inspired by barnacles, pods and sea life. I had a lot of fun in the class and may just take it again!

Illustration Friday- Little Things

I'll probably do a children's art piece for this later in the week, but for now, I just had to post this realistic painting I did of my favorite treasures from my Mother's jewelry box. They all contain rhinestones and other fake jewels. I still love to sift through the jewelry box when I go home. This is also a self portrait; I put myself on the cover of the clock necklace locket. Anyways, I really enjoyed doing this piece. I love leaving the children's art realm once in a while and just doing a intricate oil painting. I hope you all enjoy! Leave a comment!
