Chicken Licken excerpt by P.C. Asbjörnsen

So they went along and went along until they met Turkey Lurkey
“Good morning, Goosey Loosey, Ducky Daddles, Cocky Locky, Henny Penny,
and Chicken Licken,” said Turkey Lurkey, “where are you going?”
“Oh, Turkey Lurkey, the sky is falling and we are going to tell the King!”
“How do you know the sky is falling?” asked Turkey Lurkey.
“Ducky Daddles told me,” said Goosey Loosey.
“Cocky Locky told me,” said Ducky Daddles.
“Henny Penny told me,” said Cocky Locky.
“Chicken Licken told me,” said Henny Penny
“I saw it with my own eyes, I heard it with my own ears,
and a piece of it fell on my tail!” said Chicken Licken.
“Then I will go with you,” said Turkey Lurkey, “and we will tell the King!”

I decided to try my hand at the SCBWI illustration challenge that was initiated by illustrator Tomie dePaola. Regardless of the results, I am really glad I participated because I think I ended up with a nice new portfolio piece. The above text is the excerpt that participants were given to inspire an image. Best of luck to all of my fellow participants! It will be fun to see who Tomie picks!

Illustration Friday - Ahead

{Sketchbook, 2010}
{Digital Color Study, 2010}
I just squeezed in my entry to Illustration Friday this week! I was thinking of a goose that is far ahead of the pack! I would like to work on this composition a little more and do a final illustration after I clear my art desk of all the projects that need to be finished.

Illustration Friday - Subterranean

{Sketchbook w/ Digital Color, 2010}
There is nothing better than a little subterranean lovin'! I drew these carrots in my sketchbook and then scanned them into the computer and colored them in Photoshop. My favorite part of the illustration is the subplot unfolding in the background (or the above ground in this case!).

Illustration Friday-Theory w/ color

Ok Folks, as promised, the Illustration Friday sketch has some digital color. This piece is not the masterpiece of my life or anything, but this week, when I got the idea, I just wanted to have fun and laugh a little. (Especially after watching like 3 hours of Roswell stuff on the Discovery Channel...guilty pleasure). Plus, I'm doing some seriously tedious paintings lately, so I haven't had time to do tedious IF pieces. But IF is a great exercise none the less, and this week really got me thinking about the prompt and how many different meanings of "Theory" there could be.
Hope this makes you all smile.
