Princess Tomato has tagged me for a little fun. It's a quick little thing to do, and quite silly!
The rules:
1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123.*
3. Find the fifth sentence.**
4. Post the next three sentences, so if my math is correct that’d be sentences six, seven and eight.
5. Tag five people and post a comment to the blogger who tagged you.
The alternate PB version is to go to page 23 and just put down the text.
My answer:
"The teacher favored a new style, called Impressionism, that blurred objects, as though they were being seen in a dream. To show Grand the technique, the teacher took one of Grant's best watercolor landscapes over the sink, and held it under running water that smeared his clean lines together. Grant was shocked, but still determined to paint his way."
-excerpt from Artist in Overalls : The Life of Grand Wood
This is a children's book I found in the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha, Nebraska. Grant Wood is famous for his painting, American Gothic. He was an Iowa painter and once I moved here and was exposed to his work, I was surprised at how much I identified with his technique and theories.
Now I have to tag 3 people: Roberta Baird, Kathleen Rietz, and Nancy Lefko
Have fun ladies!
